25th anniversary of the Beijing women’s conference in 1995

The Rutgers Center for Gender, Sexuality, Law & Policy (CGSLP) joins the United Nations in celebrating the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action at the 1995 UN Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing. The UN’s 25-year anniversary celebrations, scheduled for March 2020, were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and had to be canceled.

This historic, global women’s rights conference is recognized and honored by the UN every 5 years.

On September 25, 2015, CGSLP celebrated the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking UN Beijing Fourth World Conference on Women by hosting a major conference at Rutgers about gender equality. The conference, part of the official United Nations Women Beijing+20 calendar of events (link here), featured remarks by journalist and activist Gloria Steinem, pioneering legal scholar Professor Kimberlé Crenshaw, and leading policy makers, advocates, and members of the academy to discuss continued challenges in achieving gender equality.
